The underprivileged indigenous people in Asia, regardless of race, gender, belief or nationality

After nearly 30 years of partnership with indigenous people I may say that our assistance in Asia generally reaches the poorest, those who until recently or never had any help from outside. Hardly recognised, they live far from our modern world, being marginalized more and more. The Asian Indigenous Peoples do not have a lobby to voice out their views and situation to the rest of the world, unlike their Latin American brothers and sisters.

The rich cultures of indigenous peoples, their traditional harmony with nature, their human warmth and friendliness seem not to fit into our "global economy". They "produce" only what they need for their daily life, but even this has become difficult, as they are being driven from their land. They do not "consume" energy, no petrol, only little water, they do not produce garbage, and they are not familiar with the term "consumer society" or "capitalism", certainly they never heard of nuclear energy, they are humble and modest. Their only worry is their daily survival, food security and peace among the many ethnic groups. As long as the outside world allowed them to live in their customary way, they were able to survive thousands of years thanks to their rules and customs, and their simple way of life.

We would like to help them how to survive and facilitate their children access to our modern world of education and technology. Together we want to search for ways to master the unavoidable changes they face, but at the same time strengthen their own culture and especially their human dignity, mostly shattered due to the pressure of the mainstream society of each country.

ATCA wishes more justice and peace for the Indigenous Peoples of Asia.
